Relocation Assistance for ER Physician is generous and available

Even in this economy, the word "relocation" should not strike fear in the hearts of emergency medicine physicians who are considering a new position, even though physician recruiters often encounter doctors who are concerned about selling their homes.

Many groups and hospitals are offering generous relocation packages where the prospective employer will pay, or assist in paying, the mortgage on the emergency medicine physician's current home which is waiting to be sold, thus freeing up money for the physician to purchase a new home.

Relocation assistance such as this is nothing new. After all, the 2000-2008 housing boom times saw major employers eager to pay existing mortgages on their relocating employees' homes, then sell that home for them. In a hot housing market, it usually didn't take long. Much of this assistance evaporated in late 2008 when the housing bubble burst and these employers were stuck paying the old mortgage ad infinitum because they couldn't unload their employees' homes.

While the economy in general is not great today, the healthcare sector is, well, healthy. That means emergency medicine groups and hospitals, especially those in rural areas, are again offering ample relocation packages to ER physicians which may include mortgage assistance and other "sweeteners."

A move to another city or state should never stop an emergency medicine physician who is looking to advance their career to the next level, especially now, with these attractive relocation packages so prevalent. A physical move, perhaps even to an area of the country they hadn't considered in the past, is often the right prescription for ER physicians who need to cure their job blues.
